A Lesson From Down Under
| 12th February 2010
|
David Redvers has just returned from a ten day visit to New Zealand where he invested in three yearlings at the Select yearling sales to re-offer at the ready-to-run sales in the autumn. He also travelled briefly before the long return journey which gave him time to make a few interesting comparisons with our own bloodstock industry.
The New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Sales complex impressed him enormously as did the quality of stock and strength of market. Karaka is one of the most recently built sales arenas and with the exception of one or two irritating but small issues it is superbly user friendly.
"Lack of lot number boards and poor catalogue indexes aside, Karaka was a heavenly place to work. Masses of space and safe level showing areas around the barns lead to excellent collection rings and a buzzing sales ring. Warm weather and great people, I loved it and can't wait to go back," reported a jetlagged David.
"Clearly, New Zealand is regarded as the nursery of the south by both the Asian and Australian markets and the strong trade reflected this. The country looks like horses were invented for it and the only thing it lacks is a really strong domestic market due to poor prize-money levels. As a result the majority of the best bloodlines are exported." A salient lesson perhaps for our own industry which is so dependent on Maktoum support?

Without A Prayer Nearly Breaks Course Record In Listed Victory
| 30th November 2009
|
WITHOUT A PRAYER added yet another Stakes success to his form when landing the Hyde Stakes (Listed) over 1m at Kempton yesterday. It was an extremely impressive run and only 0.07 seconds off the track record.
Trained by Ralph Beckett, this four-year-old Intikhab colt was purchased by David Redvers and Ralph for a bargain 10,500gns from Tattersalls December Yearling Sale in 2006. He has certainly proved a worthy investment for all his connections having now won three Listed races. He will again travel to Dubai where last year he was placed in several valuable races.
